How wrong Covid19 Positive results almost prevented Ajax from fielding André Onana and other players against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League.
Omasports reported a week ago that four Ajax players had tested positive for corona virus and would be missing Ajax’s UEFA Champions League game against Danish champions, FC FC Midtjylland
Andre Onana and Dusan Tardic, two of the four players reported to have tested positive ended up featuring in the game in what appeared like a magical turn around. Ajax FC habe now come explained the many positive corona tests were as a result of an error at the laboratory, called in by the European football association UEFA.
“We think that is very likely”, said trainer Erik ten Hag in the run-up to Sunday’s game at FC Utrecht.
Ajax initially only traveled with 17 players to Denmark on Monday for the game against Midtjylland in the Champions League. About four hours before the game, the players who earlier tested positive, Dusan Tadic, André Onana, Ryan Gravenberch, Zakaria Labyad, Davy Klaassen and Maarten Stekelenburg were allowed to play. Klaassen and Stekelenburg arrived in Denmark more than two hours before kick-off.
Ajax Coach, Ten Hag does not know whether Antony was wrongly tested positive for coronavirus in the run-up to their home game against Liverpool. The Brazilian missed the home game with the champion of England winning 1-0, but later in the week turned out to be available again against VVV-Venlo.
