How My Former Agent Tried To Cheat Me To Transfer Bonus – Obasi
Nigerian international, Chinedu Obasi has revealed what transpired between him and his agent when he was about to move to Germany.
Obasi, formerly of Lyn Oslo in Norway and TSG Hoffenheim in Germany didn’t mention the name of the agent, but is believed to be a popular Nigerian football agent, who has had contacts with top players in the country.
On an Instagram Live Chat with Kelechi Bernard, Obasi said his agent at the time went behind his back to negotiate with Lyn Oslo, asking for 50% of his eventual transfer fees if he convinces him to sign a new deal.
The former Schalke O4 striker said he was on the verge of leaving the Norwegian club, and was expected to get his full transfer bonus but his agent at the time had his own intentions.
“I was playing football, I wasn’t really paying that much attention when it comes to that. I think it happens to a lot of younger players.
“I was supposed to go as a free player from Norway to Germany, as a free player I’m supposed to get all of whatever money the club is paying. So my agent went behind my back, negotiated with Lyn Oslo, told them he’s going to get me to sign but he’s going to take 50% of the transfer. This is someone who is supposed to have my back.”
Obasi who shone glowingly in Norway had made a mark good enough to earn him a deal with Hoffenheim, who at the time were in the Bundesliga 2.
He moved on a free and formed a deadly striking trio with Bosnian, Vedad Ibisevic and former Chelsea player, Demba Ba during his time at the Village club.
