Ajax Amsterdam’s Hakim Ziyech has said it is a huge honour for him to be nominated as a contender for the African Player of the Year award.
The Moroccan international has had a good 2019 with Ajax and is one of the Dutch Eredivisie’s most highly revered players.
In an interview with Omasport’s Oma Akatugba, Ziyech said;
”It’s an honour to be nominated for the African Player of the Year award, but there are many great players on the list.
”For me, if you’re on the list, everyone has a chance, but if you will be realistic, I don’t think I can win.”
Ziyech has 5 goals and 10 assists already this season in 13 Eredivisie appearances. He also has 1 goal and 3 assists from four games in the UEFA Champions League.
The 26-year old midfielder who was born in the Netherlands will be contending with big African names like Liverpool’s duo of Mo Salah and favourite, Sadio Mane. Also prominent on the list is Arsenal’s Gabonese international, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and others.
