Ajax Amsterdam’s Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana has said the Dutch Champions are capable of repeating last season’s pleasantly shocking run this season.

Onana, speaking to Omasports after a 3-0 demolition of Lille said:

”I feel good and better, I’m happy for especially the win. It was important for us to start good from the onset. I’m proud of what we did, how we defended and our performance. I hope we keep playing like this and winning games. ”It’s possible to repeat last season’s feat but it’s important to take every game as it comes. We have to be patient, and we have another game for the weekend against PSV Eindhoven and we are always ready to play anyone.”

Ajax, who lost three three key players during the transfer window have replaced the players and have begun their quest for glory on a good note this season. Onana said about making comparisons between the two squads.

”We cannot compare our team this season with last season’s because of the quality of players we lost but we will do our best to play like we did last season but only God knows what will happen.”

A product of Samuel Etoo football foundation agreement with Barcelona, Onana who joined Barcelona at 13 before his eventual departure to the Netherlands said he is very grateful to the Cameroonian legend and wants the best for him going into the future.

”I’m very thankful to Eto’o for what he did for me because I come from his academy. I always wish him good luck ahead of the next step.”

Former African champions, the Indomitable Lions lost to Nigeria at an African Cup of Nations Round of 16 tie. Onana, who was in goal as the Super Eagles of Nigeria won 3-2 said.

”I want to revenge our defeat to Nigeria against Cameroon because I hate to lose. I know we will play against them soon and defeat them that time.”
