Two fingers pointing to the sky, knees on the ground, eyes closed, and in spiritual solitude with God, David Luiz, in his own regard epitomises some sort of ‘Godliness’ in football. This made his assertion, that God is everything in his life rather unsurprising. In my brief chat with the Chelsea defender, after Wednesday’s Europa League final in Baku, David Luiz said; ”God is everything in my life. If it was not God, I’ll not be here today, God has made me a better person and that’s why I love God.”
The former PSG defender, who had a brief tense moment with Gonzalo Higuain during training a day before the clash said on enjoying the victory against Arsenal; ”I enjoy it a lot, and I think you have to say ‘thank you’ to everybody who has helped me to be here today. First, God, my family, friends and fiancee and everyone else because we can’t achieve anything in life alone. “I pray everyday, he added. “
The 32-year-old defender also spoke about his former Chelsea teammate. Nigeria`s John Obi Mikel, who coincidentally is his birthday mate ”Mikel is my great friend, we were born on the same day in the same year and he is doing amazing in England and I wish him all the best.” Luiz declined to comment on who the best player in the world is between Ronaldo and Messi as he said; ”I’ll like to have both players on my team.”
