Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez was a victim of card fraud in 2017 while still playing for Leicester after a truck driver Sharif Mohamed spent £175,830 on his card on lavish lifestyles, according to The Sun.

Mahrez didn’t realise that the money which was spent on trips to Ibiza, Aspers Casino, Nando’s, KFC and Greggs was taken and he blocked the card afterwards.

“The most amazing thing is that someone can blow £175,000 on a bank card without the loser even realising,” Former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Mick Neville told the Sun

“Why on earth would an elite footballer be spending at fast food joints and Britain’s favourite steak bake supplier? ‘Banks are normally very quick off the mark to spot unusual spending but if the sums were low then it probably wouldn’t flag up.”

Mohamed’s barrister asked for him to be given a suspected sentence because he had been drinking and taking drugs at that time. He was bailed ahead of sentencing on February 25.

The fraud was detected after he attempted to order a new card on Mahrez’s behalf at Barclays Bank, according to the Sun.
