Russia 2018: Samuel Umtiti heads France into the final
By: Akpesiri Akatugba
The first semi-final of the FIFA World Cup ended with victory for France over Belgium, thanks to a single 51st minute near post header from Barcelona star man Samuel Umtiti.
The encounter was a cagey affair, as both sides were cautious trying not to give anything away. The Belgians took control of the midfield early on in the game as France waited for opportunities to break quickly.
The first half was a thrill to watch, the only thing lacking was a goal which came early on in the second half courtesy Samuel Umtiti.
France have now reached the world cup final three times since 1998 when they won the world cup on home soil.
France held on to their lead to book a place in Sunday’s final against either Croatia or England, as both sides play tomorrow.
