The average Nigerian man is one who is very hopeful and believes anything is possible. And in football as well, they also say “anything is possible”. This is precisely the mindset of so many Nigerians as the Super Eagles on Croatia in her first game at the Russia 2018 FIFA World cup finals.
And what about the players? One of them believes strongly that Nigeria, the 3-time AFCON Winners can with the Russia 2018 FIFA World cup. His name is Keneth Omeruo, one of the most experienced members of the current squad. He played a crucial role in Nigeria’s Brazil 2014 campaign. France eliminated Nigeria in the second round through a Paul Pogba header. Speaking with omasports at the Avita Resort in Bad Tatzmandorf, Austria, Omeruo said:
“Yes, we can win the world cup. I think we have never gone past the round of 16. But this time, we are not just going to say. Let us get to the round of 16, but we would be working hard, taking every game as it comes and hopefully our hard work would see us through to the final of to do something which no African country has done.”
Russia 2018 will make it Nigeria sixth appearance at the FIFA world cup finals. The 2013 AFCON winners are yet to cross the round of 16. However, there is a wave of optimism around the team’s chances this time around after qualifying for the tournament without blemish as well as an almost flawless preparation for the competition.
