Iceland’s Alfreð Finnbogason has reacted to the recently concluded Russia 2018 FIFA World cup draws where his country was grouped with Croatia, Argentina and Nigeria in group D.
The striker, 28 who plays for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga is not very excited about playing Croatia, because they have played each other too many times already but he thinks it is very cool to have Argentina and Nigeria in the same group.
“I hoped that we would not draw Croatia because we have played each other a couple of times of recent and they are a very good team, but it is very cool that we shall be playing against Argentina and Nigeria because the two countries, we are not too familiar with and it will be a very new experience for us”.
The Icelandic squad topped their qualification group, Group I, in the European qualifying round for the World Cup, They managed to top sides such as Croatia, Ukraine and Turkey, with Finland and Kosovo rounding up the group.
It will be the second major tournament appearance for Iceland after they participated in EURO 2016 in France. Iceland reached the quarter-finals of the tournament, eventually bowing out to host nation France, after having finished off England in the first knockout stage of the tournament.
Iceland was placed group D alongside Nigeria, Argentina and Croatia during the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup draw that took place in Moscow.
