Super Eagles number one goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been nominated for the Eredivisie goalkeeper of the year award by Dutch website Voetzbalzone.
He was named in the team of the year by the same website after an impressive first season with Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie.
Okoye made 27 appearances and kept 10 clean sheets. He conceded 35 goals, to put that into perspective, by goalkeepers with over 20 appearances, his number was not bettered, it was only matched by Remko Pasveer of Vitesse and Marco Bizot of AZ who also conceded 35 goals.
“He started as a stand-in for Benjamin van Leer, but in the end Okoye was worth gold for Sparta. Ten clean sheets in 27 games is excellent for a goalkeeper of the number eight in the Eredivisie,” the organisers said of the 21year old.
