UEFA and UK Government To Meet Today Over Champions League Final Venue

UEFA and the UK government are set to meet today to discuss the possibility of moving the all English Champions League Final between Manchester City and Chelsea to a venue in England, according to Sky Sports.

This comes after the UK placed Turkey on coronavirus travel restrictions red list which would prevent fans from travelling to the final which is scheduled for May 29 at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul.

Wembley Stadium is heavily favoured to host the final if it is moved from Istanbul and it is believed Aston Villa’s Villa Park is also presented but doesn’t meet UEFA standards for such an event.

The EFL playoffs final is also on May 29 at Wembley and according to the Times, they are willing to move to a different date and venue to accommodate the Champions League final.

The last time Wembley hosted the Champions League final was in 2013 between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and also in 2011 between Barcelona and Manchester United.

The meeting is expected to go ahead today and a decision is expected tomorrow.
