Jose Mourinho has expressed empathy for Frank Lampard who was sacked by Chelsea yesterday. Lampard was sacked by Chelsea after just 18 months in charge.

Mourinho coached Lampard as a player at Chelsea in two stints, the most successful of the club’s history and Jose has described him as an important person in his career.

“I’m always sad when a colleague loses his job and of course Frank is not just a colleague he’s an important person in my career so of course I feel sorry.” he said.

Mourinho has managed in top clubs across Europe’s top leagues and has won everywhere but has faced the sack on most of the jobs including twice at Chelsea said hiring and firing is the brutality of modern football.

“It’s the brutality of modern football. When you become a manager it’s something that you have to know – that sooner or later it’s going to happen to you.”

Lampard won six trophies at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho. Bar for the Carabao Cup penalty shootout win over Chelsea earlier this season, Lampard has gotten the better of his former boss as a manager, beating him at Manchester United with Derby County and a league double in his first season.
