German international defender Antonio Rüdiger uses the run-up to Christmas to say thank you and donated pizzas to staff in Covid 19 intensive care units from 13 clinics in ten cities across Germany.

The 27-year-old selected cities and regions with particularly high incidence values, especially in the severely affected eastern Germany. He also supplied the Vivantes Clinic in Neukölln, where he spent his childhood and youth.

“The people who work in the corona intensive care units are currently doing a great job. For me, these are all women and men of honor, these people cannot be thanked enough for all their services in this very difficult time. For the common good, they put their own health on top of things – that deserves the greatest respect.” says Rüdiger.

More than 420 nurses across Germany received the pizza donations and  a thank you letter from Rüdiger, who in return received numerous messages himself.

The Chelsea defender also encourages the public to appreciate the work of the employees in Corona intensive care units even more:

“I am of the opinion that in the annual reviews 2020, which are coming up again soon, not just any athletes or Actors should be honored, but much more all the employees in the Corona intensive care units. However, we should not only thank these employees this year, but always.” the 27year old said.

Rüdiger in collaboration with Chelsea teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi also donated nose masks and other medical supplies to Africa during the coronavirus lockdown.
