UCL Roundup: Liverpool through, Bayern’s winning streak ends, Group B goes to the death

English champions Liverpool are through to the last 16 of the Champions League after holding on to a nervy 1-0 win over Ajax, the other game of the group between Atlanta and FC Midtjylland ended one goal apiece.

Reigning champions Bayern Munich’s 15 game winning streak was ended today after a 1-1 draw away at Atletico Madrid. Bayern rested many first team stars including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski. They were close to losing but were redeemed thanks to an 86mins Thomas Muller penalty.

Salzburg gave themselves hope of qualification by beating Lokomotiv Moscow 3-1 in Russia, they’re two points behind Atletico Madrid and the two face off in the final match day.

Group B goes to the death as all teams still have the chance of qualification. Shakhtar beat Madrid 2-0 and Inter fought to a hard 3-2 win away at Gladbach. Madrid and Gladbach, Inter and Shakhtar would face off in the final match day.

Man City top group C while Porto are confirmed runner-up. Marseille and Olympiacos will both fight for Europa places in the final match day. Olympiacos hosts Porto while Marseille will travel to Manchester.
