New Sparta Rotterdam signing, Maduka Okoye is in high spirits after signing for the Dutch Eredivisie side. Okoye, 20 told Omasports that he feels readier than ever to take the Super Eagles’ top goalkeeping spot.
“I am a young goalkeeper and I think I feel more prepared to be the Super Eagles number 1. I am ready. I feel ready to take the Super Eagles’ top goalkeeping spot, now I’m in a top league like the Eredivisie with Sparta Rotterdam. I’ll work hard on myself. I can’t wait.” Maduka said.
He appreciated his Nigerian fans for standing with him all along and said he will pay back with good performances for the Super Eagles whenever he gets a chance to play.
Okoye, 20, was trained in Germany, passing through the Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund academies at different periods. He last represented Fortuna Düsseldorf U-23, and trained regularly with the senior team.
He has represented Nigeria at the international level once, coming in as a sub for injured Francis Uzoho in a friendly match.
Okoye will be battling for the top goalkeeping spot of the Super Eagles with Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and others that may earn invitations.
